BIOGRAPHY

James is a 6′ 1″ old-school centre half, who is strong in the tackle with excellent aerial prowess, and he has a wealth of experience in the game.

He began his career with 3 years in the youth section at Aberdeen, before being signed by Motherwell. Three seasons at Clyde followed, where he was Captain of their reserve side, before a season with Queen of the South.

James sought a career outside of football at this point & moved into part-time football, being signed by Paul Martin for Albion Rovers to help their ultimately successful survival bid.

With his work taking him south, McGowan spent three years playing non-league for Kidlington F.C. (where he won the Hellenic League) and then Thame United in the Southern League, before moving back home & signing for SPFL League Two Elgin City where he earned a reputation as a long-throw specialist.

Elgin finished a disappointing 8th in James’ first season at Borough Briggs, but he enjoyed a much better second season as Elgin finished 3rd in SPFL League Two last season, which would normally have seen them compete in the play-offs for promotion to League One. He also enjoyed a loan spell at Linlithgow Rose last term when he was recovering from injury, and featured in the heart of the defence live on TV as the Rose faced Falkirk in the William Hill Scottish Cup.
